Getting There

There are many ways to get to Cumbuco!
There is Air Portugal, that leaves Germany via Lisbon to Fortaleza. From Lisbon to Fortaleza is 7 hours nonstop. Flights leave from all cities in Germany and other European countries.
A great benefit from flying Air Portugal is the bigger luggage limit of 2×23 kilos per person.
If you like you can stop for a night or so in Lisbon without any extra costs.
Sometimes staying in Lisbon is inevitable. In this case costs for the night will be paid for by TAP. And TAP is also part of Miles & More.
Other flight companies are TAM (via Portugal), Air Madrid (via Madrid) and from Amsterdam with Martin Air. We can help you when you are planning on flying with TAP and TAM.
Time differs 4 hours in winter- and 5 hours in summertime to the central European time.

Moneyexchange:
We recommend exchanging some money at home, for example the Taxi on arrival costs about 80 reais, and because when arriving at the airport after 9pm the two ATMs only give out 100 reais, extra money is desirable.
It’s the same story in the Icarai village at the big gas station and supermarket and in Cumbuco.
Buses go from one place to the other, important information for people not planning on renting a car.
EC- as well as creditcards are accepted. You get the best rates with an EC Maestrocard at the ATMs.
From our experience it is not recommended to spend all real before trying to get more. Sometimes the ATMs do not work for a couple of days.
Important: There are no banks or exchange boothes in Cumbuco.
Hotels change at a pretty bad rate.

From the airport in Fortaleza to Cumbuco it’s about 30 kms. There is a taxi service that can also take your equiptment which we can organise for you.

Rented car:
We recommend on renting a car for everyone. If you are planning on doing so, we can help you anytime!
If you only want to kite and relax in Cumbuco you don’t necessarily need a car. But to be more flexible and visit the lagoon Cauipe or spent some nights Fortaleza, a car is an absolute must have! Prices for a rented car, for example a small Fiat are 59.90 R$ to 64.50 R$ in july, november and december.

For your information:
if you want to go to the Cauipe lagoon you don’t need four wheel drive because you can use the normal streets.
If you want to drive along the beach you will need a four wheel drive, if you don’t have one you will get stuck in the sand. Furtheremore you will be required to sign in the hiring contract that you will not drive on the beaches.
A german drivers license is usually enough to rent a car, but if you have an international one you should bring that.

For entering you need a passport that is still valid for more than six months after leaving.
A visa is necessary when planning on staying more than 180 days in Brazil.
If you are planning on staying longer than that you will need to contact the local police after 90 days, better after 85 days.
